For this assignment of appropriate images, I have chosen a London theme, each image has a strong association to the city and I’ve tried to change each image in a new and different way from each other.
My first image is in association of Jack the Ripper, the notorious London serial killer from 1888. The image is of modern day Durward street, which was known as Buck’s Row, where one of the ripper victims, Mary Ann Nichols body was found.
I changed the image from colour to monochrome to give it that old feel, I then copied the image, change the opacity and moved it slightly right. This gives it the feel as if someone moved the camera before the shutter managed to get a clean shot and has the classic ghostly feel to it. I found a drawing of the ripper and using the lasso tool in Photoshop, I cut around the image and placed it here just around the corner and resized so it was smaller and fit the image better as well as changing the opacity on it to give it a ghostlier look.
My second image is of the London underground; the first image is a computer model of a future station while the second image is a photograph of an old station with a train passing through it. In this image I tried to merge both stations together by placing the old above the new and using the rubber tool, delete parts of the image so they almost merge. This images gives you the past and future in one go.
My third image is of Big Ben (Elizabeth Tower), I decided to try a Richard prince approach to this and slightly change the image by cutting out a road sign from another image and placing is on Big Ben as if it’s a protest banner in some way. This image gives off several messages, the road sign clearly says you must follow what is says as it’s a sign, the fact its on a clock tower suggesting time controls us all and what we must do and when, and since its on Westminster palace (Houses of lords and commons) we must follow are leaders and law makers.
